Several Singaporean Christians came together in October 1989 to form a congregation called Asian Christian Assembly under the direction of Rev. Eu Yat Wan (1989-1991) who was sent from Trinty Christian Centre to plant a church in Vancouver .

Several ethnic congregations make use of the church building in an effort to become intentionally multicultural.

In April 2001, the two congregations officially merged under the name of

Bethel International Church Pastor Len Mittelstaedt and Pastor Rainer Mittelstaedt share the pastoral duties. In January 2002 Pastor Len resigns to complete theological studies at Regent College and later goes to Tanzania as missionary. Pastor Rainer assumes full pastoral responsibilities. In October 2004 a Global Leadership Network team comes from Trinity Christian Centre to hold a seminar to train the leadership in the GLN model of the cell-based church.
